Slingshot Million “Go ahead”

February 22nd, 2010 | Category: Stillbliss records

I’ve been foolin’ around with one of their songs called “Go ahead.” It’s been turning out quite nice. It’s a new sound and it is considered their best song. Things ARE progressing here at Stillblissstudios.

It’s in the mp3 player on the right………Listen..

Things are going well-Slingshot Million

February 19th, 2010 | Category: Band

Yesterday we tracked Slingshot Million’s (the new band here) main female singer Yui’s vocals. We had some trouble trying to get her to sing the harmonies for some parts, but we used a piano to get her on track and everything turned out nicely. I have been using the Mackie onyx 1620’s pres and eq on the drums, and the FMR audio RNP & RNC on the Vocals, Bass & Guitar. We are trying as much as possible to keep to the sound the band will be sounding like on stage, so minimal FX as much as possible. Of course this IS an album so it is mixed properly so it sounds like an album.

I will be mastering it soon after we retake some guitar on one song that seemed to lack a bit on the “power” side. I used an SM57 for micing the cabinet. The main guitarist uses a Hughes and Ketner amp, with a head and cabinet. And I thought that micing it with an SM57 sounded just about right.

The vocals we used a Shure ksm 32sl. Bass we used the FMR RNP, RNC combo.

I will be posting snippets of the songs up on the mp3 player. Keep tuned!

The band should be uploading their tracks over to myspace, annd while you’re at it check out their new website here: Slingshot Million

 Ok! Have a nice day!

Jun of Crank killer-T arrives with his new band

February 17th, 2010 | Category: Stillbliss records

Jun of Crank killer-t arrived day before yesterday with his new punk band consisting of a female singer and new bassist. Former drummer of Crank killer-t Shu and guitarist and front man and singer for Crankiller-t Jun is what this four piece band consists of.  It took us one day to track the drums for three of their songs which they came to stillblissstudios to do. The other days we tracked bass guitar running through an FMR audio RNP with the inserts running through an FMR audio RNC. And the sound turned out quite nice.

For those of you technical readers I will spill out some secrets of what I do here in this studio record wise as well as mixing wise right here.

As you already know, I own a Mackie onyx 1620. When I first used this mixer I was still a bit leary on using eq in general, especially boosting. So I left the eq section on the mixer flat then worked on the eq with plugs later on in the box. But what I realized working with Jun’s recent band is that boosting with the eq on the 1620 actually helped to accentuate the needed frequencies that I wanted to hear. And so the drums turned out better then they sounded with my clients first band. And they also mentioned this as well. Not saying that NOT using eq is bad, but if you KNOW what you are doing, then boosting can be helpful in the recording process.

I will post snippets of this bands recording in the mp3 player once it is complete with vocals & mastered here.

Thanks again for coming to my blog!
